Vegas Casinos Gambling on Locals
By jstevens | March 16, 2010
With the slowdown in the economy, Las Vegas has had to try and attract new tourists to their hotels and casinos. They’ve dropped room rates, handed out gas cards and given away entertainment tickets. Some of the people that are taking advantage of the new promotions are locals. Why go vacation somewhere else when you can holiday for a discount at home? Professionals in the travel industry are calling them “staycations”.

Many casinos are catering to locals; now the locals get to be the tourists for awhile. The Palazzo has mailed out invites to locals that haven’t been customers before, Hooters is offering free rooms to locals who’ve never been there before, and the Las Vegas Hilton has developed a local marketing strategy that includes gambling discounts and cash gifts. Harrah’s is even offering to cover losses of up to $100 for locals who join their Total Rewards Program.
