By Sonny White | March 16, 2010
With the economy tanking in the U.S., Las Vegas is seeing the first slowdown in expansion since 2005. Gaming revenues are down for 2008, and many casinos are stopping expansions and planned renovations. The big City Center Project is still a go. The first phase of the $9.2-billion, 68-acre project is under construction on the Strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo. It opened in late 2009. Phase two will be between the Monte Carlo and New York New York.
The $3B Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino will be open in 2010, and will house 2,200 rooms and 70,000 sq. ft. of casino space, with another 300,000 sq. ft. of shopping. People can buy 900 sq. ft. condos that can be managed by the hotel staff at the owner’s request. Guest will have their choice of restaurants and nightclubs, and rooms will have VIP access to the rooftop beach club.
