Fight Over $22,000
By jstevens | March 12, 2010
Jens Peter Dragon, of Paradise, was branded a cheat by Adelaide’s SkyCity casino and was left facing a 10 year jail term after winning $22,000. Mr. Dragon received the winnings, but the casino claimed he had done so because of a malfunction playing a horse racing game machine.
“They tried to put me in jail for winning something” Dragon said.
The whole initial incident went down in July of 2006 where he played the game that allows up to 12 people to be on six model horses and jockeys as they race around the track. Players can bet for a horse to win or place bets on the quinella- the first two horses to finish.
After winning the casino charged Dragon with taking advantage of a machine malfunction to secure a benefit. As of yesterday, prosecutors formally tendered no evidence.
“I’ve instructed a legal representative to issue a letter of demand against the casino,” Dragon said. “If they fail to give me a satisfactory response, I’ll take matters much further.”
Mr. Dragon is once of several people worldwide where because of a casino’s claimed malfunction have had their winnings in jeopardy.
